Recce Report

The movie disruption is based upon a high school massacre; this is why we have chosen to use only one location while filming this movie. The location chosen is Sir George Monoux College, although we are only using one main location there are many parts of the college that we have incorporated. For example we have used the Quad, Learning Resource centre, Zone, Entrance, Canteen and corridors of the college to show the normal day by day routines of college students socialising, meeting friends etc. We follow numerous characters on their way through the college keeping their identities and the killer’s identity hidden from the audience until the end of each of their journeys. The lighting room was also used as a separate location in the movie i.e. the killer’s house, showing what interests him e.g. other massacres and the darkness of his room while he’s getting changed. This scene reveals the clear separation from the equilibrium/norm and the disruption (Todorov’s equilibrium model). Some problems we may experience are permission to film in certain areas e.g. the lighting room, learning resource centre, sports hall and zone as they may have classes and will be unavailable for us to film at certain dates and times. We may also face a problem with filming normal college life of the students that already attend the college to give establishing shots, this can be overcome by asking the students permissions or have them be totally unaware of the fact that we are filming to get a more natural setting. Another issue that may interrupt filming will be over populated areas, in order to avoid this we may have to film after lesson times or on quiet days. The common issue we face is weather as many of our scenes are outside, thus poor weather could damage our equipment or affect the setting of the film. We have chosen to use natural light through most of the movie which is why weather will be an issue. Another common issue is background noise while filming in such a busy area, in order to overcome this we can edit certain sounds out or replace them with another. Lastly, lack of equipment may be a problem is we wish to take certain shots like a bird’s eye view or an arc as we will not have be able to get the equipment to have a steady shot, we will try to do the best we can using the equipment we do have or just simply use other shots that will be equally as effective.
